Bridlington School

Bridlington School is a maintained secondary school for 11 - 18 year olds, based in Bridlington. We were judged to be a good school in our most recent Ofsted inspection in June 2017. Our ambition is to become an outstanding school and we are working extremely hard to achieve this goal. We have approximately 980 students on roll and numbers are increasing year on year as our reputation as a centre of excellence grows. In 2017, for the 6th consecutive year we won the SSAT Excellence Award for the exceptional progress our students make between Year 7 and Year 11. We have a vibrant 6th form staffed by a dedicated team who ensure not only the best outcomes for the students in a variety of Academic and Vocational courses but also support their next steps into higher education, employment or apprenticeships.

At Bridlington School we are passionate about being at the forefront of leading teaching and learning, we believe passionately in ‘growing our own’ staff and have a strong track record of doing this very effectively. We currently have three middle leaders that were trained to become teachers by us and one who is now a senior leader. Five NQTs who started with us are now in the extended leadership team. In November 2018 one of our NQT teachers won the local hero teacher of the year award.

Our ‘Bridlington School family’ places wellbeing at the heart of what we do. Our purpose centers around our school motto which is taken from the Latin from our original logo and directly translates as ‘They hand on the torch of life’. Our vision is to be an inclusive community where so students’ passion for learning is ignited, they are excited by achievement and recognised for success.

Ron Dearing UTC

Ron Dearing UTC is a brand new school for 14-19 year olds, which opened in Hull city centre in September 2017. Working in close partnership with The University of Hull and the region’s leading employers (KCOM, RB Siemens Gamesa, Smith & Nephew, Spencer Group and C4DI to name but a few), we provide our students with a totally unique way to learn. Equipped with industry-standard engineering and digital equipment, including a £370,000 Virtual Reality Cave, our school is the most technically advanced learning establishment in the UK. Our high quality provision ensures that our students acquire the academic and professional qualifications and the personal and employability skills they need to give them the edge in our rapidly evolving digital world. In response to the increasing needs of local industry within our region, we specialise in STEM with specialisms in Mechatronics and Digital Technology.

Although the development of employability skills and technical and applied learning is extremely high priority at Ron Dearing UTC, we are an academic institution and all our students study a range of academic subjects alongside technical and professional qualifications. Whilst the English Baccalaureate is not part of our curriculum offer, the school’s performance in terms of the key benchmarks of Progress 8, Attainment 8, Basics and ALPs is of the highest priority. We also believe passionately in the development of creativity and high quality literacy and oracy skills. Art and English are therefore have equal status with the STEM curriculum. Our broad enrichment curriculum includes, music, drama, art, debating and sport as well as activities which are directly linked to our specialisms.

Currently we have four hundred and sixty students on roll and have been hugely oversubscribed since opening. Over the next four years, numbers will increase to six hundred (one hundred and fifty in each year group). Our students come predominantly from Hull and the East Riding. Unlike students attending other schools, they have made a proactive choice to attend Ron Dearing UTC because they have high aspirations and are passionate about the employer - engaged model of learning and the curriculum we offer.

The Hessle Academy

The Hessle Academy is one of only 170 all-through schools in the country providing education and support for students aged 3-19. The Academy comprises Hessle High School and Sixth Form College and Penshurst Primary School.

The Hessle Academy is a founding member of The Consortium Academy Trust, a fast-growing Multi-Academy Trust, formed in 2017 and now comprises five Secondary Schools, two Primary Schools and a Special School, soon to be located near The Hessle Academy.

The Hessle High School and Sixth Form College is set in attractive grounds, located on Heads Lane, with excellent views down the River Humber and across the spectacular Humber Bridge.

The school, located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, primarily serves the East Riding town of Hessle and some parts of West Hull. Smaller groups of students are drawn into the secondary phase from the neighbouring small towns and villages of East Yorkshire as well as from Barton, in North Lincolnshire. Proximity to the M62 ensures easy access to the motorway network and other major cities in Yorkshire and beyond.

Historically, Hessle High School was a split-site school. However, in January 2016 we took possession of our new single site school. Staff and students alike are now enjoying the benefits of high-quality accommodation, equipped with the latest technology and specialist facilities that are among the best in the region.

The Hessle Academy is a good and ambitious school. This was recognised by Ofsted in our most recent inspection in September 2018, when the achievement of students, quality of teaching, behaviour and personal development of students and leadership and management were all judged to be good. In recent years, outcomes for students have been consistently above average in terms of attainment and the school is a disciplined and well-organised environment. We have high standards of school dress and have clear expectations on punctuality, attendance and behaviour. Our students are positive and respond well in all aspects of school life.

The Sixth Form College is focussed on providing high quality teaching and care to secure the best achievement and outcomes for all. As a school, we have a long history of partnership working in this area, being a part of ‘The Consortium’, a widely recognised successful sixth form partnership with two other local schools. Students are able to study at Hessle as well as having the option to study subjects at either of the other Consortium schools.

The Sixth Form is based in the historic Tranby House, a Grade II listed building that was fully refurbished and brought back to its former splendour in our recent renovation. Tranby House now comprises a Sixth Form social area and catering facilities as well as extensive study facilities. Sixth Form students play a full roll in the life of the school, but equally will continue to enjoy the advantages of this dedicated provision.

The school prides itself on the wide range of extra-curricular opportunities offered to our students. Annually, students take part in over 300 teams, clubs, and events.

The Hessle Academy enjoys an excellent reputation amongst the local community and is a popular choice amongst parents. During our recent Ofsted inspection, a response to the Parent Survey commented that; “All the staff from the headteacher to the caretaker seem to genuinely care for the children from a pastoral care and academic point of view”.
