Course Information
All secondary trainees receive 2 hours of subject training per week, led by a highly experienced subject leader, who has a strong track-record of outstanding results in schools in the GORSE Academies Trust. This ensures that training is highly tailored to delivery to pupils in KS3, 4 and 5, and covers all areas of subject knowledge and disciplinary skills. We offer great insights into how outstanding schools operate and what we do as teachers to continue to inspire and encourage pupils in a love of chemistry. Our curriculum offer is highly extensive and unique in this regard.
Chemistry trainees will, alongside an excellent programme of chemistry training, also receive guidance on teaching physics and biology. This ensures that in any placement school you will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to cover any subject in the science curriculum. This is because all schools will require chemistry teachers to teach biology and physics in combined science curricula. This strengthens your employability.
Moving into Term 3, you will receive chemistry-specific training in higher tier teaching of key stage 4 and 5 teaching. This will allow you to continue to enhance your pedagogy and subject knowledge to fully adapt your teaching to higher tier pupils and classes. This will also prepare you for any key stage 5 teaching you may move into or be involved in during your training year.

Chemistry is a multi-faceted and ever-evolving field as there are constantly new questions to answer and challenges to overcome. We are assured that fields of chemistry will continue to be major employers and to find solutions to problems that help improve people’s everyday lives and the long-term ecological health of the planet.
While studying chemistry, students will develop and build on a range of skills from practical skills, teamwork, communication, problem-solving and thinking critically. Students can use these skills in fields, such as education, medicine, sustainability, environmental science, forensics, and much more.
An experienced chemistry science teacher delivers enthusiastic and exciting lessons to students with a clear passion for their subject. Experienced teachers will not only be confident in their substantive knowledge of their courses and be able to plan and teach lessons to an outstanding level and adapt their planning to meet the needs of a range of learners, they will also be secure in their disciplinary knowledge of theoretical and practical work.
