Applications for September 2022 are now open!

Leeds, Hull and East Yorkshire Code

One of the most rewarding aspects of the human experience is our ability to connect with others. Being able to communicate with someone in his or her language is an incredible gift. People who speak more than one language have the unique opportunity to communicate with a wider range of people in their personal and professional lives. Language is the most direct connection to other cultures; being able to communicate in another language exposes us to, and fosters an appreciation for, the traditions, religions, arts, and history of the people associated with that language. Greater understanding, in turn, promotes greater tolerance, empathy, and acceptance of others with studies showing that children who have studied another language are more open toward and express more positive attitudes toward the culture associated with that language. Language skills can be a significant competitive advantage which set young people apart from their peers.

They are among the top eight skills required of all occupations and the demand for bilingual professionals is rising exponentially. Learning a second language opens additional doors to opportunities for travel, exploration, studying or working abroad. People who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, the ability to multitask, and better listening skills as well as displaying signs of greater creativity and flexibility. On this course, you will learn how to motivate and inspire young people to study and enjoy languages and to become lifelong language learners. You will be able to immerse students in language and culture and broaden their horizons and aspirations. You will learn how to improve students’ listening, reading and writing skills as well as their ability to communicate in the target language. We provide a variety of authentic cultural experiences for our students as well as a number of trips abroad where language learning can be put into practice. You will be learning to teach within a large team of talented linguists, native speakers, foreign language assistants and highly skilled practitioners.
