Happy New Year from GORSE SCITT!

What a fantastic start to the year it has been in the world of teacher training!

Our trainees were lucky enough to work with the wonderful Alex Quigley, exploring how to close the reading gap as part of their Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) central training week. It was inspiring to hear about the exciting lessons trainees are planning in preparation for their enactment weeks.

Trainees have also begun their second placements across Leeds, Bradford and Hull, where they are putting theory into practice during their ITaP enactment week.

This month also saw the University of Sunderland launch our latest PGCE module with an engaging and interactive session focused on action research. The session was packed with valuable expertise, practical advice and plenty of fun.

Our lead mentor team have been out and about delivering training to mentors, and we’re excited to begin observing our cohort in their new placements.

Employment clinics have continued throughout January, with trainees working closely with the lead mentor team on applications and mock interview preparation. As Matt, a secondary Geography trainee, reflected:

“The entire curriculum provided by GORSE SCITT is designed to prepare you to excel in an interview, enabling you to compete strongly not only with other trainees, but also with established teachers.

More specifically, there is support available in the shape of employment clinics, mentor catch-ups and dedicated time in subject sessions. Interview processes can be daunting, but GORSE SCITT gives you the tools and confidence to make a fantastic impression and secure employment in the perfect school for you.”

We are proud to announce that 18 of our trainees have now secured employment, with many more having interviews lined up in the coming weeks.

As trainees settle into their second placements, we are incredibly proud of the progress they have made and the resilience they continue to show. We are looking forward to beginning our term two observations this week!
