Course Information
All secondary trainees receive 2 hours of subject training per week, led by a highly experienced subject leader, who has a strong track-record of outstanding results in schools in the GORSE Academies Trust. This ensures that training is highly tailored to delivery to pupils in KS3, 4 and 5, and covers all areas of subject knowledge and disciplinary skills. We offer great insights into how outstanding schools operate and what we do as teachers to continue to inspire and encourage pupils in a love of language learning. Our curriculum offer is highly extensive and unique in this regard.
On this course, you will learn how to motivate and inspire young people to study and enjoy languages and to become lifelong language learners. You will be able to immerse students in language and culture and broaden their horizons and aspirations. You will learn how to improve students’ listening, reading and writing skills as well as their ability to communicate in the target language. We provide a variety of authentic cultural experiences for our students as well as possible trips abroad where language learning can be put into practice. You will be learning to teach within a large team of talented linguists, native speakers, foreign language assistants and highly skilled practitioners.

Meet the Mandarin Subject Lead
Sarah Clayton
Our mission is to develop trainees into MFL teachers who possess a diverse set of skills and qualities which make them highly effective classroom practitioners; teachers who are genuinely passionate about teaching languages and are committed to fostering a love for language learning in their students.
We will help trainees to use their proficiency in the target language to expertly model correct pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary so you can convey complex language concepts in a clear and engaging manner to suit students of varying levels and learning styles.
They will learn from real classroom experiences which will help them to develop practical teaching skills and build confidence in managing a class. They will learn from and be mentored by experienced and highly skilled teachers: and learn from their expert teaching techniques and strategies.
We will enable trainees to stay up to date with the latest pedagogical approaches, language teaching methodologies, innovative language teaching techniques and technological advancements.
We will encourage trainees to share cultural awareness with their students by using authentic resources, literature, films, and exploring cultural practices.
We will support MFL teacher trainees in navigating the professional workplace and managing workload as well as helping MFL trainees in securing employment and launching their teaching careers successfully.
