It has been another exciting and productive month at GORSE SCITT, and we are thrilled to see our trainees making such strong progress as they approach the final stages of their training. Our Lead Mentors have been visiting trainees on placement across Leeds, Bradford, and Hull, and it’s fantastic to see so many of them becoming confident as they prepare for their roles as Early Career Teachers (ECTs).

We are especially grateful for the positive feedback we continue to receive from our trainees. Melody, who is training in Art and Design and currently placed at The Stephen Longfellow Academy, where she has already secured employment for September, shared this inspiring reflection:

“Art teacher training at GORSE SCITT has been a transformative experience that has significantly enriched both my personal and professional life. The training provided a strong foundation in pedagogy and practical methods, deepening my creative expression, sharpening my communication skills, and empowering me to inspire students in diverse settings. It has truly changed my life—helping me find my voice as both an artist and a teacher, and giving me the tools, confidence, and mindset to grow in ways I never imagined.”

We have also had the pleasure of hosting numerous interviews at our central training base in Leeds City Centre. Many outstanding candidates have already secured places in our 2025–2026 cohort, and we look forward to welcoming more applicants over the coming weeks.

This month also saw us take part in a careers event at the University of Leeds and host our own GORSE SCITT Taster Day at The Ruth Gorse Academy—both fantastic opportunities to meet future teachers and showcase the support and training we offer.
