It has been another busy month at GORSE SCITT, and we are thrilled to announce that applications are now open! We have conducted our first interviews and launched exciting new courses this year, including Primary with SEND, Primary Part-Time, and Secondary English with Drama. Additionally, we had the opportunity to participate in our first Careers Fair of the school year at The University of Hull!

We conducted well-being visits with each trainee, engaging in one-on-one meetings in placements to discuss how they are settling into their schools and explore how we can best support them. It has been heart warming to hear how supported and comfortable they feel already. Here is a wonderful comment from one of our Geography trainees placed at Elliott Hudson College:

“Wearing yellow today to raise awareness for Mental Health Day. We are filled with gratitude for the uplifting wellbeing check-in with our link tutor and the incredible support from our fellow SCITT trainees and mentors at Elliott Hudson College. Together, we are creating a positive and encouraging environment!”.

Primary trainees took part in their Phonics Intensive Training and Practice Days where they covered the Alphabetic Code and focused on the importance of the use of pure sounds when introducing new phonemes to children. The trainees deconstructed videos of phonics lessons before participating in small group rehearsal. Trainees have also submitted their PGCE proposals with dedicated support from their university tutors and have begun teaching their first full lessons. As we approach half term and reflect on the progress made, we are filled with pride and happiness at their achievements.
