Before applying for teacher training, it’s really important to look into the requirements for providers and what they offer in their training. Our central team here at GORSE SCITT have put together some regularly asked questions and answers to help you in completing an application.

Q- How to I apply for teacher training?

Teacher training applications are made via UCAS, the link to make an account and apply is found here can apply to three different providers on here.

Q- What are the course requirements for GORSE SCITT?

  • Candidates need to have a bachelor’s degree at a minimum of a 2:2 or above. This needs to be in the subject that you want to teach, if your degree is not subject related then candidates need to have at least a grade C at A-level in their chosen subject. Other requirements include GCSE Maths and English Language at grade C/4 or above, if you are interested in teaching primary you will also be required to have GCSE science at grade C/4 or above.

Q- Can I still apply for teacher training if I have no prior school experience?

Yes, school experience is not a pre-requisite of any offer made to candidates. We can work with those who have been made a conditional offer by us to arrange school experience prior to the programme commencing if they would like to spend time in our schools observing.

Q- Do you offer Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses?

  • Yes we do, this is completed via an online platform. More details about this, the bursary you gain from completing an SKE and what subjects we offer this in are found here

Q- What does a training week look like for a GORSE SCITT Trainee?

Our Trainees spend 80% of their time on placement, however two days a week you will receive training from us. Once a week we hold a training session for the entire cohort, this is a General Education Session covering a multitude of topics throughout the year. Another day in the week you will receive subject knowledge training from our subject leads. Providing weekly sessions to enhance your knowledge in your specific subject area.
