The unique feature of this programme is the ‘assessment only’ characteristic. We do not provide any training on the assumption that whoever applies for this is already meeting the teacher standards: this route is designed for candidates who can demonstrate that they are able to fully meet the 2012 Teachers’ Standards without the need for further training.

Who is the QTS Assessment Only (AO) Route for?

  • All candidates on the Assessment Only Route must already have substantial experience of whole class planning, teaching, assessment, reporting etc. It is likely that they will have participated in CPD, Inset and in-house training and professional development activities as part of their current role in school.

  • All candidates will need to have achieved a GCSE grade C in their Maths and English. Primary AO candidates will also need to have achieved a GCSE grade C in Science.

  • All candidates will need to have achieved a minimum of a 2:2 in their degree in order to be eligible for this route.

  • All candidates on the Assessment Only Route must have experience of teaching in two different settings.

  • All candidates on the Assessment Only Route must be supported by a suitably qualified and experienced mentor. If the nominated mentor is not a subject specialist a second subject mentor should be appointed to support and contribute to the assessment of your candidate’s subject knowledge.

  • All candidates on this route will need to engage fully with the SCITT’s assessment system.
