I have worked in education for over 12 years. I studied for my PGCE at Goldsmiths University and I trained in a number of inner-city London schools. I have worked across all aspects of Art, Design and Technology. My degree was in Fashion and Clothing and this is an absolute passion of mine. I taught this in a Creative and Media Studio School for over five years. I have worked with trainee teachers throughout my whole career as a mentor, coach and as a whole school trainee co-ordinator. Programme Structure

The SKE for Design and Technology consists of up to 14 modules linked to the National Curriculum and the GCSE examination rubric, including specialist A Level and BTEC Options.

All participants will study the core 8-week modules that focus on the National Curriculum and any participants following a longer SKE programme will complete an advanced subject knowledge programme.

Delivery and Assessment

Learning resources for the programme have been created by the two experienced subject leads in Design and Technology. Each module was carefully crafted to include all aspects of the key stage three National Curriculum and the key stage four and five specifications.

Applicants will be assessed on their final pieces at the end of each module which includes a range of practical and theory activities. The courses are designed around you and your specific areas of development in textiles, graphics and food subject knowledge. For our participants undertaking the longer SKE you will have a tailored approach from module 10 to develop your own understanding of the key skills and knowledge required to teach at key stage four and five. Our participants will work with our subject knowledge leads to plan this approach.

Modules

Module one – Early Years and Key stage 1 & 2

This module will introduce our SKE course and allow participants to consider what their strengths and areas for development are. It encourages participants to consider the current issues facing our subject by Rethinking Education. Additionally, it introduces the Design Technology provision offered to our Early Years and offers insight into teaching and planning in Year 1 and 2.

This module consists of 4 assignments:

Assignment 1 – Subject Knowledge Audit
Assignment 2 – Rethinking Education
Assignment 3 – Early Years
Assignment 4 – Year 1 and 2

Module two – Key Stage Three

This module focuses on projects in Design Technology at KS3 level and how we deliver and explore problem solving, designing and making techniques through different design briefs.

This module consists of 4 assignments:

Assignment 5 – Graphics
Assignment 6 – Food
Assignment 7 – Electronics
Assignment 8 – Electronics and Product Design

Module three – Specifications and Teaching at KS4

This is an enhanced GCSE course designed for participants who would like to boost or refresh their knowledge in teaching a range of specialisms across key stage four.

This module consists of 4 assignments:

Assignment 9 – Specifications
Assignment 10 – Fashion and Textiles
Assignment 11 – Graphic Design
Assignment 12 – Food Technology and Hospitality

Module four – A-level and BTEC

This module will introduce post-16 teaching and look at Design and Technology beyond the curriculum. The unit will introduce participants to teaching both the BTEC and the AQA A Level qualification. The final unit will introduce participants to enrichments that will inspire their students

This module consists of 3 assignments:

Assignment 13 – BTEC Level 3 Art and Design
Assignment 14 – AQA A Level
