What is your current role and experience in teaching?

I am currently Acting Curriculum Leader of Design and Technology at The Ruth Gorse Academy.

Why are you passionate about your subject?

My passion for design and technology originates from my love of creating. Design and technology allows opportunity to engage in the creative process and provides a sense of achievement and pride through the outcomes.

What impact does strong subject knowledge have?

Strong subject knowledge has a significant impact on you as a practitioner. Feeling confident in your knowledge gives you a strong foundation to becoming an excellent teacher.

Modules

Module one (Week 1)

Technical Knowledge

Over week one we will explore and develop your understanding of textiles materials theory exploring the different properties, functions and applications of textiles in the curriculum.

Module two (Week 2)

Designing

Week two will see the course move into designing with textiles in mind, considering a range of applications like fashion, interior and exterior products.

Module three (Week 3)

Making

Within week three we will explore and develop your ability to make items and use textiles techniques, familiarising yourself with a range of equipment, materials and processes.

Module four (Week 4)

Evaluating

Within this final week you will not only evaluate your work but also explore the work of others an apply evaluation and analytical skills to suggest development and ways to improve.

Delivery and Assessment

The programme is delivered through optional online tutorials and asynchronous study.

Assessments will include mini tasks, evaluative tasks, research and readings. There will also be an opportunity to reflect on the key ideas learnt in each unit of work. Each submission of assessment will receive detailed and clear feedback outlining professional knowledge, strength and areas to develop further over the remainder of the course.
