Trudy Morton, one of our fantastic Modern Foreign Language Trainees, discusses her highlights of the training programme and how teacher training is adapting to the current circumstances as training continues online. GORSE SCITT is committed to ensuring our Trainees feel supported, even more so in these uncertain and challenging times; we are continuing our training through weekly General Education Sessions via Zoom and through online resources.

I can honestly say that the opportunities I have had access to whilst completing the programme have been fantastic, especially the week’s Primary enhancement in January, I absolutely adored it.  It opened my mind to other opportunities and career possibilities on completion of the programme.  In addition, I recognised that I thrive most in a setting where others are supportive and have time to support my progression as a Trainee Teacher, people that genuinely care and want to share their teaching experiences in a manner that is satisfying for both parties. There are great trainee mentors on the programme and I have met some truly lovely people, friendships I will take with me, and reminds me of Donne’s quote that “no man is an island” something we all need to be mindful of, especially during this time.  What is more, since the closure of schools I have been astounded by how quickly the SCITT central team have adapted to the changing requirements and needs of their trainees.  The NASBTT online resources are amazing and so beneficial to my training, something that has been accessible from home and that I am gaining a broader understanding of how I can continue to meet the Teaching Standards.   I have been able to reflect on my own strengths of resilience and determination and recognise that even when we feel we are in complete darkness there is always light, we just need to recognise “one another”.
