The support that trainees receive on the GORSE school-centred initial teacher training (SCITT) programme is exceptional.
OFSTED 2023
Trainees receive consistently high levels of support.
OFSTED 2023
Trainees appreciate the quality of the support that they receive. They know that both in placement schools and central training, staff are accessible, available and always willing to help. One trainee described how course leaders were like ‘confidants’.

Trainee wellbeing is at the heart of all that we do. It is at the very centre of our vision: ‘GORSE SCITT aims to nurture our committed and passionate trainees into responsive and reflective teachers equipped with the knowledge and skills required to give all young people that they teach, regardless of their background, the gift of choice.’ We understand the importance of a solid foundation to ensure that we train, and retain, the very best teachers.

Wellbeing Support

The GORSE SCITT team are trained in Mental Health First Aid, and several members of the team are also trained in Suicide First Aid. We have a wellbeing officer who delivers group training and workshops on a range of topics, including managing well-being and workload. They also offer 1 to 1 bespoke support for trainees. We identify any initial wellbeing needs prior to the course starting, and each trainee has a 1 to 1 meeting with a member of the GORSE SCITT team during the first few weeks on placement to see how you are settling into teaching and if you need any support.

As a GORSE SCITT trainee, you can access a wide range of mental health, physical, financial or personal support services through the Employee Assistance Programme including 24/7 Telephone Support, In the Moment Support and Face to Face and Virtual Counselling on 0330 380 0658.

Education Support, supporting teachers and education staff is a UK charity dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of teachers and education staff in schools, colleges, and universities.

As a GORSE SCITT trainee you can access support from our partner for the Post Graduate Certificate of Education: Wellbeing, Disability Support, Specific Learning Difference
